About this curriculum

We aim to encourage children to have a go, to believe in themselves and become a ‘Creative Colin’ in order to boost their confidence and feel a sense of achievement as an artist.

Our Art and Design curriculum ensures that children explore, imagine, and create. Through engaging practice, communication, and a dive into the importance of Art and Design, children are equipped with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art.

Children are taught to embrace the journey of an artist, to understand the importance of making and experimenting. We recognise the importance of our children having knowledge and understanding of art in the wider world, to broaden their understanding of the multiple forms of art and to take inspiration from this.

Sequential Curriculum

Art strands with declarative and procedural knowledge that deepens and broadens progressively each year:

  • Sketch books/recording
  • Art skills
  • Learning from others
  • Techniques
  • Creativity and design

Substantive concepts identified within art. The understanding of these is deepened every time they are re-visited through links to prior learning.

Year 5/6 Girls Football Cockington B 0-0 Kings Ash POTM Lily-Mae Another fixture meant another rotation for this B team. The game was very end to end with both keepers being tested into the first half. The girls were very positive about their first half performance and really wanted to get that all important goal. Sadly, the game finished 0-0. Our two strikers, Marla and Phoebe, were a constant threat, and came close to finding the winner. Lily-Mae, playing in her first game, did amazingly well - confidently getting us up the pitch, not being afraid and got stuck right in. Not only did Mr Taylor and Miss Goodwin agree, but the majority of the team voted Lily-Mae as POTM.
