About this curriculum

Torquay, on the South coast of Devon, famously known as ‘The English Riviera’, has a history that starts some 450,000 years ago with. early human artefacts found in Kents Cavern. Tourism during the Victorian Era molded Torquay into the rich and diverse seaside town it is today.

We understand that many of our children will continue to live and work in our local area, therefore our aim is to give them the best opportunity to be ambitious and successful. In addition to local history, we want the children to also explore and enquire about national and international history to prepare them for the world they are growing up in.

Year 5 Boys Football Cockington A 3-2 Warberry A POTM : Freddie Goals: Alfie K, Leon and Marek This week, we welcomed Warberry to the wonderful Torre Valley North. This game was an insight as to what we can expect next year as our team consisted of Year 5 pupils. It started well with Alfie K scoring within the first few minutes. The visitors countered with an equaliser just before half time when they scored the rebounder after a great save from Leo. The boys were very keen to try to get the win at half time. Warberry gained the next goal through a deflected free kick - this only spurred the boys on even more. It was only a matter of time for us to equalise ourselves, and we did through Leon. He picked his head up, saw the keeper off his line and hit a great shot over the keeper into the top corner. Minutes left in the game; we got the winner! Marek continued his fine form in front of goal with a great strike through bodies. Freddie was named player of the match, playing in an unfamiliar role in centre-back. He won every header, looked very comfortable back there and was very commanding. Well Done Boys.

Year 5/6 Boys Football Cockington B 1 - 1 Warberry B POTM - Dragos Goal: Alfie C Despite the weather, the boys were positive and spirits remained high throughout the whole game. We started off strong and gained an early goal through Alfie C. The boys continued to press on but couldn’t get the breathing space and we were pegged back level just before half time. As rain continued, every boy on the pitch gave their all but were stopped every time by a determined defence and a brilliant goalkeeper. Our player of the match, Dragos, played in defence, worked hard and was key for getting the team forward.

Year 2 had a visit from Sophie Pierre from Montel Civil Engineering, the company carrying out the works at Torquay harbour. She talked to the classes about constructing bridges, how health and safety has changed and then challenged them to make a bridge using only paper! It was lots of fun and the children have new ideas for their final bridges now.

Year 5/6 Boys Football Cockington A 3-0 Shiphay A Goals: Finley Alfie C Jack POTM: Roman - Made some great saves and deserved his clean sheet, making sure we was still in the game. Last Thursday we hosted Shiphay in the first game of the new season. After defeating them 2-1 previously the boys looked to make it another win. The first half was very slow and the boys struggled, thanks to Roman making some great saves and some good blocks from Leo, we went into half time 0-0. We woke up second half and Finley grabbed another goal, coolly slotting between the keepers legs. Alfie grabbed the second in pretty much identical fashion. Finally Captain Jack scored a lovely solo goal. Good start to the season. Well done boys.
