About this curriculum
Our focus on the Design Process helps children to learn to take risks and to apply their knowledge of other subjects in order to solve real and relevant problems. DT offers the opportunity for pupils to build their 21st century skills of creativity, critical thinking, communication and collaboration.
Our DT curriculum provides a creative and practical arena in which to succeed as citizens within and beyond our locality. Over 2 million people are currently employed in the UK’s creative sector and our curriculum aims to develop children’s aspirations to work in this area. In our rapidly changing world, our pupils will go on to solve the problems of the next generation and to live sustainable lives. From using scissors in the Early Years to producing a meal in Year 4 to creating electrical systems in Year 6, our pupils learn a range of practical, real-life skills during their DT lessons. This complements the important skills learnt in other areas of our curriculum, such as Wild for Learning, and ensures that all our children have the chance to develop these key life skills.
