What year 5 got up to

Kerri talked to the Y5 children about keeping safe in the home – including messages around unplugging electrical devices and how to work out an escape route in your home should the need arise. She shared with the children the many roles of the fire service, including animal rescue, attending water incidents and road traffic collisions. In addition, she shared how community support officers visit homes to undertake fire safety checks, installing smoke detectors for free. The children got a great deal from the session, while impressing Kerri with their own understanding of fire health and safety. They have been tasked with making sure they know the first line of their address in case of emergency – well done Year 5!

What did Year 2 learn?

Year 2 were recently visited by a firefighter who told us all about fire safety. The children learnt to call 999 if there is an emergency; to stop, drop and roll to put out any fire that gets on them; and to switch off or unplug any electronics when they are not using them. They also got to see what is inside a fire engine and had the chance to try on some of a firefighter’s uniform – we may have some budding firefighters amongst our Year 2s!
