Organising our football club

Since September, as a school we have been busy organising the relaunch of our school football teams. We offer football clubs for Y3/4 and Y5/6 for both boys and girls. We have even organised footballing activities to do in the classroom, so even if it is too wet/windy to train, we are trying to avoid cancelling the club and instead the children will enjoy fun indoor based football activities in a classroom.

Football matches going forward

As well as this, we have entered into every league and cup competition on offer to us. We have entered a Boys Y5/6 team, a Girls Y5/6 team and a Y3/4 team, which is open to both girls and boys. Across all three teams, we have already organised 15 league fixtures against other local schools, with 5 further cup matches to add to that!!

With each fixture, we have asked if we could take an A team and a B team, but this is dependent on whether the opposition can also do this. We feel that it is important to offer every child that wants to(from Years 3-6), a chance to represent their school team, and we have just under 100 pupils attending the football clubs we have offered.

In terms of the matches, each team will rotate the B team so that by the end of the year, each child will have been able to represent their school football team at least once but hopefully more. The fixture list, once finalised, will be uploaded to the website in the next few days.

Cockington’s footballing journey

As a school, we are at the beginning of our footballing journey and we may not win them all, but with the amount of clubs we have on offer, the amount of pupils attending them and the number of fixtures we have organised, it won’t be long until the Cockington football teams will be competing with the best. Until then, if your child is really keen, there are a number of local football teams that they could join. Playing football outside of school is the best way for developing football confidence, enjoyment and ability. To help with our relaunch, we have been very lucky to have received sponsorship from a number of sources.

A special thank you to our PTA

Our school PTA have very kindly bought us 55 x brand new kits!! Each with our school logo, embroidered onto them. They look amazing and there is enough to cover all of our A and B teams! The PTA have also funded 60 brand new bibs and 60 brand new kit bags, each with our school logo printed onto them.
