Early Years Foundation Stages

Today, Moles class went to Exeter on the train! We visited St Nicholas Priory, which was amazing! We learnt all about life in the Tudor times as part of our history work on the Great Fire of London. The ladies were so knowledgeable and lovely. The children were brilliantly behaved and were a credit to the school. Tomorrow is the turn of Squirrels class...

Swisco launched a 'Design your local Park' competition last week in school. Over the last week , children have been handing in their designs for Rocket Park and Victoria Park.

Yesterday, Year 5 brought their history lessons to life at Torre Abbey. We explored 800 years of history, wandered the ruins, and braved the undercroft - all while soaking up some glorious sunshine. Such a treat to have this incredible local history right on our doorstep!

OPAL NEWS We are enjoying getting out in the sunshine and exploring new areas on the playground. We are always on the look out for new items. If you having a clear out at home, before throwing anything away please see if you might be able to donate it to us! We are looking for any pre loved items such as small word play, dolls, teddies, play mats. We constantly need to update our stocks, so please keep them coming! Year 4 had a fantastic day to hook them into their new Learning Enquiry about the Anglo Saxons. They took part on a carousel of activities including: making bread on an open fire, printing using leaves and flowers, and practicing their archery skills to see if they could save the chickens from the foxes!

Yesterday afternoon, we were delighted to host the Connect Games netball tournament here at Cockington, welcoming teams from Preston and Eden Park for a fantastic afternoon of sport. The matches were played with great energy, teamwork and determination from all schools involved. A special thank you goes to the girls from Torquay Academy’s netball team, who supported the event by officiating the games with confidence and professionalism – they did an amazing job! We are incredibly proud to share that Cockington were the overall winners 🥇👏 – a brilliant achievement and a reflection of the team’s hard work and sportsmanship. Well done to all players involved for representing their schools so positively – it was a lovely afternoon of netball!

We have had such a lovely couple of days being supported by the Cockington PTA in a variety of activities. We had the amazing Spring disco where we took over £500 for school funds. We have had the Easter egg hunt where every child received an Easter treat. They also judged the Easter competition. The standard was very high and you could tell a lot of effort was put into all the entries. Thank you so much for supporting your child at home with this. Here are some pictures for you to enjoy! During this half term in Year 1 as part of our jigsaw lessons Rabbits and Foxes have been learning about what it means to be healthy and the different ways we can maintain a healthy lifestyle, including eating a balanced diet, staying active and getting enough sleep. The children have thoroughly enjoyed these lessons with Miss Owens and have shared many ideas about how to stay healthy. As the end of term is here, on Wednesday the children made their own fruit salad, showing how to be collaborative, and persevering. They all had a turn making the salad and stiring it all up! It all looked delicious! Well done everyone, and enjoy your Easter break! 😋 🍓🍊🍌🍍

Barmy Badminton! Mr Barlow has been running a tournament during his badminton club. Today he awarded the winners with their medals and trophies! Well done everyone!

During this half term in our jigsaw lessons Turtles class have been learning about what it means to be healthy and the different ways we can maintain a healthy lifestyle, including eating a balanced diet, staying active and getting enough sleep. The children have thoroughly enjoyed these lessons with Miss Owens and have shared many ideas about how to stay healthy. As the end of term approaches the children today made their own fruit salad, showing how to be collaborative, and persevering. They chose the fruits they would like to include and had a turn making and stiring it all up with the help of Miss Owens, Mrs Taylor Robert’s and Mrs Singleton! And we all agree they look delicious! Well done everyone and enjoy! 😋 🍓🍊🍌🍍🍑

Our Year 6 girls had a fantastic time at the Beginners Rugby MegaFest at Paignton Rugby Club! 🏉 The morning was packed with fun, skill-building activities where the girls showed great enthusiasm, teamwork and determination. In the afternoon, they put their new skills into action in a series of games, growing in confidence with every match. We are so proud of their positive attitudes, effort and sportsmanship throughout the day — they represented our school brilliantly! A huge well done to all involved 👏 We’re already looking forward to more opportunities like this in the future!

Our Year 4 team travelled to Preston for their very first competitive netball match and showed fantastic teamwork, determination and sportsmanship throughout. We are incredibly proud to share that Cockington came away with a win! 🎉 The children represented the school brilliantly and should be so proud of their achievement. This is just the beginning, and we’re really excited to see what the future holds for this team! 🌟

Year 5 had a great week last week. For those children who did not go on the residential, they had fun making Easter chocolate nests, watching Chitty, Chitty Bang bang at Torquay Academy, painting pictures, making dens and learning archery skills, as well as having lots of fun! Here are some photos of the fun we managed to catch!

Last week, Years 1, 5 and 6 were treated to a musical extravaganza at Torquay Academy. We went to watch Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and what a show it was! We were amazed to see some ex Cockington pupils performing in the lead role and they were phenomenal! Well done to everyone!
