Wow! Thank you so much for supporting our PTA summer(?) fair today. We held it inside as the weather forecast torrential rain from 4pm, although this didn’t actually happen until later! We had such great fun with soak the teacher, the tombolas and penalty shootouts. It was great to see the Mario Kart challenge hotly contested and we all loved the glitter tattoos! Thank you to the PTA and head chef for the hot food.
Thank you to everyone who attended, and helped us raise funds for the school. We’ll let you now the final amount raised soon!

We were treated to a visit from resident poet, James Carter yesterday who ran 2 school assemblies & workshops with Years 2 & 4. The children were inspired to write their own poems and were given the opportunity to perform their compositions. Thank you again to James for visiting and to the School Literacy Network and Torquay Library for a wonderful day!

Mrs Goad and Mrs Shorter had a fantastic day at the Torbay Arts in Schools Network (TASN) with Doorstep Arts. It was a wonderful day of workshops and lively discussions, which may lead to some exciting events at the school in future! The setting of Torre Abbey was, of course, stunning, and provided a gorgeous background to the important business of enriching Torbay's children's culture through the arts.

Yesterday, Cockington proudly hosted Preston Primary School for a series of exciting netball matches. Both our Year 3/4 and Year 5/6 teams showcased outstanding teamwork, with excellent shooting, sharp passing, and strong collaboration on the court. Their hard work paid off, as Cockington emerged victorious in both matches! A big well done to all the players for their effort and sportsmanship.

Last week, a group of enthusiastic children from Cockington proudly represented our school at the Connect Games Mini Swimming Gala. Competing alongside pupils from Widey Court Primary, Leigham Primary, Eggbuckland Vale Primary, and Preston Primary, our swimmers took part in a range of individual races and relay events throughout the morning.
The competition featured a variety of strokes, including front crawl, breaststroke, and backstroke, allowing every swimmer to showcase their skills and determination. The atmosphere was electric, with cheers of encouragement echoing around the pool as each participant gave their all.
We are incredibly proud of our children—not only for their strong performances in the water but also for the sportsmanship and team spirit they displayed throughout the event. Well done, Team Cockington!

Garding club this week was berry-tactic. The children harvested a great crop of strawberries and golden raspberries. They then made berry cheesecake cups. Finally, they planted their own strawberry plants to take home and collected some GIANT radishes from the school garden too!

Last week Year 1 went aboard the Golden Hind in Brixham, we had a brilliant morning learning about Sir Francis Drake, the children were able to explore the ship whilst taking part in a treasure hunt and taking home a piece of treasure at the end! ⚓️💎☠️ Foxes and Rabbits class also explored Brixham Museum which the children all enjoyed, they especially loved seeing the real police cell inside the museum!
As we left school the weather was against us but when we arrived in Brixham it was a glorious morning ☀️ Thank you to all the parents for their help on the day!
Happy Pirates all round in year 1! ☠️⚓️

Year 5 have started their Design & Technology learning off this week by looking at and evaluating games that use electrical circuits including 'Operation', 'Beat the Buzzer' and more. They are going to use this knowledge to become inventors of their own games inspired by the question "How can we use games to educate people about the ocean?".

Thank you for all of you that came to support us at Sports Day on Wednesday. We were so lucky with the weather and it was a gorgeous day. We are so proud of the children and their dedication and perseverance with all of the activities. The sprint finals were thrilling! It was great so see the middle distance runners really digging deep and showing real stamina in those longer distances. Thank you to Mrs Pattison for organising the event. Thank you also to the PTA for running the refreshment stall - we raised over £100 for school funds. Thank you!

This week, our Year 6 boys and girls football teams had the unforgettable experience of playing at Torquay United FC!⚽️⚽️
Tuesday – Boys Tournament
The boys kicked off the action with a strong showing in the league phase—recording a win and a draw to qualify for the Cup Competition.
They held their nerve in both the quarter-final and semi-final, winning on penalties each time in true dramatic fashion!
In the final, they gave it their all but just fell short. Still, they should be incredibly proud of their journey and the resilience they showed throughout!
Wednesday – Girls Tournament
On Wednesday, it was the girls’ turn—and they were simply outstanding!
In a round-robin league format, they won 7 games and drew 1, without conceding a single goal!
Topping the table earned them a place straight into the final, where they faced the same team, they had drawn against.
This time, they came out on top with a confident 2-0 victory, meaning they went the entire tournament unbeaten and without conceding. Incredible!🏆
A huge well done to both teams for their hard work, teamwork, and sportsmanship. You’ve made the whole school proud!😊

We have been busy after school, taking advantage of the sunshine in gardening club. The children enjoyed having a tour of the garden with Miss Martin who has spent the spring term preparing the planters, growing seedlings and growing produce for us to use in our club.
The children learnt about and tried different types of tomatoes. They then used them to make pitta pizzas; they collaborated to prepare the ingredients and then created their own.
Whilst the pizzas cooked, the children planted some tomato seeds to take home and re-potted tomato plants for our school garden.
There is also an exciting project on the way with the volunteers of Torquay Train station, so look out for more information about that in the next few weeks!

Performing Arts Club had a wonderful day at the Devon County Show today! We performed on the Devon Music Education Hub stage and the children were incredible, as always. Then, we had a fantastic time exploring the farming areas, the fun fair, the ocean and river discovery zones and the armed forces area. Some even climbed the climbing wall and food some archery! We are very proud of the children and their excellent behaviour.
